fact 1
Taiwan is a developed country highly industrialized and globally famous for its semiconductors, and we are facing is the soaring wages instead of poor salary. According to IMF, TW GDP is ranked 14th worldwide (2023) based on the foundation of PPP. As a democratic country which allows people to move freely, the whole society has a mechanism of reaching the wage balance; moreover, the laws also reinforce the minimum salary system with foreign labors under its coverage. Therefore, the fair trade against labor abusing is not the case in TW.

Fact 2
The ecosystem of our tea industry is much more like alliances of small & medium business. Due to rugged and limited arable lands, the area available for cultivation is very restricted. As a result, most estates owners possess only a specific range of land. Besides, since the skills required for cultivation and production are vastly different, estates owners often outsource production to factories nearby. These SMB are mostly run by friends known for lifetime from neighboring villages , thus it ensures the openness and transparency, without any monopoly.

Fact 3
How tea pickers are paid? The wage is based on (1) weights of fresh leaves picked (2) altitudes of estates (3) peak or slow seasons. Generally, workers start the day from 8:30 and finish at around 16:00; they might just stop and finish a day when it rains. it’s a tiring job for hard-earned money, but on the other hand, the pay is also fine in countryside. Taking inexperienced persons in middle altitude estates during low seasons for example, the average wage is around US$70 on daily basis, and this figure will be 20~40% higher when conditions of #1~#3 are met.
